my quiet drive

I am guilty of complaining about the drive to Bloomington. It's one I make every day and truly, honestly it's not that bad. It's just far enough to feel like an inconvenience. Last night I made the drive alone, just me and the mini {van, that is} out on the open road.
After a week of gloomy, dark skies, look at what I beheld as I drove down the country road. {And this is with my cell phone camera}.
The sun broke through the thick cloud cover coming down in long, bright rays. It was a hallelujah moment. One that made me pause in my tracks, pull over to the side of the road and snap these pictures. I always think of heaven and God's majesty when I see the sky like this.
Something I must tell you is that I love talk radio. XM has revolutionized this for me; on my way to small group last night I listened to some news and a little couples 911 with Dr Laura Berman and just a touch of Gayle's world with Gayle King. It's a special indulgence when I'm driving alone to be able to tune into some good talk radio. I've also been known to listen to the traffic report on wgn, too from time to time, except for no apparent reason.
I got to Bloomington just a touch early so I hit up the sales racks at Bergners. I may or may not have purchased 3 new cardigans at 80% off. I want spring clothing, but can't resist a sale - I mean we are talking between 5 and 7.99. Deals.
Our small group is reading the book, "Celebration of Discipline" {by Richard Foster}, and the chapters we read for last night focus on meditation and prayer. I realize that I fill every void and quiet moment {which is rare} with some sort of busyness or noise {enter talk radio on a quiet drive}. So on the way home I actually did turn off the radio and put away my cell phone and just drove in quiet. It was unusual, but good for me, too.

Oh my goodness....those pictures are amazing! So, so beautiful. Sounds like a nice drive - I have to admit it would be hard to drive in silence, but probably time well spent!

Love you and hope to see you soon!

That sky is GORGEOUS! It really does look like Heaven shining down on us.
I'm glad you were able to enjoy the quiet on the way home--that is hard to do, but it's a good reminder to me to be still. You'll have to tell me how that book is. I've had it on my shelf since college but have never read it. I know I could use more discipline! :-)

Love you!
PS-Great deals!!! You couldn't pass those up! Good cardigans and sweaters can be used year round!
